Seitdem ich diesen Schatz hier gefunden habe, geistert in meinem Kopf der Wunsch herum ein Lineal aus Papier selbst herzustellen. Natürlich im Bleisatz mit meinen 2 Punkt starken Linien. Also fing ich an auszurechnen wieviel Spacing ich zwischen jede Linie stecken müßte, um die Millimeter- Einteilung hinzubekommen. 1 Punkt entspricht 0,35 mm und 2 Punkt sind dann 0,7 mm. Ein dünneres Spacing als 1 pt habe ich nicht, das bedeutet jede Einheit aus Spacing+Linie ist 0,05 mm zu breit. Kann ja soviel nicht sein, dachte ich… haha – schon nach drei Linien erkennt das bloße Auge, dass die Maßeinheit nicht mit dem gewohnten Millimetermaß übereinstimmt. Mist. Die Schlussfolgerung daraus ist; ich muss eine anderes Maß erfinden. Mh, welches Maß braucht die Welt?

As I found this on a fleamarket the idea of a letterpressed paper ruler grow in my mind. I didn’t want to make a polymer plate, I wanted to use my metal lines instead. So I had to figure out the spacing I had to add to get a millimeter scale. My lines are 2 pt thick and the spacing is 1 pt, that’s 3 pt together and this is equal to 0,105 mm. I didn’t care about this 0,005 mm difference, but as I printed a proof one obviously see that it is not a millimeter division. Hrrrr. So the only thing I can do now, is to invent a new scale or measure, become famous, print rulers with that scale and make lots of money 😉
